It is important to evaluate what’s better for you. Whether a combination of orthodontics (braces) and cosmetic dentistry (e.g. porcelain veneers) is best for you or just orthodontics (braces) or a smile makeover alone will achieve the result you want. Time is an important influence of the treatment options. Orthodontics (braces) can take up to 2 years (in severe cases) to complete whereas a smile makeover can be achieved in 2-3 weeks.

It depends on how much dentistry you require or want, to get the perfect smile. Of course this type of dentistry does not come cheap and can range from a few hundred pounds to a few thousand pounds. Not everybody has this much money at their disposal, but there are ways of spreading the cost of dentistry. One of the best ways is to take out a dental loan to cover your expenses. This can be repaid over a period of one to five years.

The charges that are made for dental services can vary from practice to practice for many different reasons. First ask yourself what services do they provide? How experienced is the dentist in his field of expertise? How good is the technician at creating perfect veneers? If you can answer ‘excellent’ to all of these questions then you are half way to understanding the difference between an average dental practice who delivers ‘passable’ dentistry and one who delivers ‘excellent’ dentistry. The cost of the dentistry reflects the excellent quality and service of the dental practice.

There are several ways that you can fix a badly chipped front tooth. Firstly the dentist will ascertain as to how you may have chipped the tooth. Was it a trauma, such as a fall or was it caused by eating or biting into something very hard like a cherry pip or an olive stone?

To make the tooth look better immediately, a cosmetic filling could be placed. This may last for a while but could chip off if you are not extremely careful. If it was a trauma then the nerve of the tooth could be damaged. In this case it may be necessary to remove the damaged nerve and fill the root canal before placing a crown on the tooth.

Free consultations are available to anyone wanting to have cosmetic treatment done. We offer these to our patients to allow them to learn more about us, about the kind of work we do and it also gives them the opportunity to ask us questions regarding types of treatments, how long treatment can take and the costs involved. Consultations usually take about an hour or longer if necessary and are carried out in a private and relaxed environment.

You will see from our initial examination how differently we do things here as a practice. To ensure your cosmetic dentistry is exactly how you imagined a lot of planning goes into it. A detailed examination is carried out making sure we cover everything you want for your treatment and how you want to look. Even during the preparation stage we are still constantly checking and reviewing the treatment. Some patients would prefer to speak to others who have had cosmetic dentistry done which can be arranged. At our practice we also have a book full of testimonials from happy patients which is on display in reception. We have hundreds of before and after pictures of treatments we have done! Hopefully these should give you some confidence in the work we do!

Excessive amounts of fizzy drink in your diet will cause acid erosion on your teeth. The enamel is eroded away and sometimes the dentin too. This can cause your teeth to become sensitive and have a transparent appearance to them. Unfortunately once the enamel has been worn away it can’t be put back. The only thing that may help is cutting back on the fizzy drink or drink through a straw, using a fluoride mouthwash and toothpaste and not brushing your teeth straight away after acid exposure, instead rinsing your mouth with water. Your teeth can be restored with fillings, veneers or crowns.

We can’t make you stop grinding your teeth but we can stop you causing damage to your teeth. A hard acrylic mouth guard can be made which has to be worn every night. This mouth guard will take the stress your teeth put on each other. Rather than wearing your own teeth away by grinding you will effectively be wearing away the mouth guard.

Many people grind their teeth, especially during the night and many don’t even realise they are doing it. If you wake up with an achy jaw then there’s a good chance you are grinding! Also if you are going through a stressful period you may find you are grinding your teeth. Occasional teeth grinding is harmless but excessive grinding can lead to other problems with your teeth and jaw.
